JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team fell on Tuesday afternoon inside Rugg Arena, dropping a 95-74 decision to the visiting LaGrange Panthers. The Blazers are now 2-8 (1-1 CCS) heading into another home conference matchup this Saturday.
A fast-paced game from the start, both teams traded buckets and subsequently the lead throughout the opening 10 minutes. A late Panther basket gave them a 27-20 lead heading into a second quarter that was controlled by the Blazers.
Kourtne Lee's jumper with 2:56 to go in the half capped off a 17-3 run that saw Belhaven turn a seven-point deficit into a seven-point advantage. The Panthers scored the final five points of the first half, but the Blazers were in front by two heading into the half.
The visitors were able to flip the script in the third, seizing the lead and momentum throughout the frame. The Blazers were outscored 33-18 in the quarter as LaGrange took a 68-55 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.
Despite several baskets from
Allaijah Gamble and
Ebony Gayden down the stretch, the Blazers did not threaten the lead the rest of the way as LaGrange picked up a 95-74 victory inside Rugg Arena.
Ashanti Lipscomb led the way offensively for the Blazers, totaling 21 points on 5-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Ebony Gayden and
Hayle Poindexter poured in 14 each to join Lipscomb in double figures.
The Blazers will look to bounce back on Saturday, January 6th when they host Maryville for a 2:00 PM tipoff.
