DEMOREST, Ga. - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team fell 83-67 on Saturday while taking on Piedmont in conference road action.
A close contest for the majority of the game, it was the Blazers who largely held the upper hand through the early quarters holding a 21-19 lead at the end of the first period. The advantage was due in large part to stellar three-point shooting early with Belhaven going 5-7 from beyond the arc in the first quarter.
Belhaven held a one-point lead at the half despite not attempting a three pointer in the second quarter thanks to consistent shooting from the field overall. The third quarter was where Belhaven lost their foothold in the contest a bit as the hosts flipped the script with a 26-14 scoring margin.
The Blazers kept the fourth quarter close but were not able to overcome the double-digit Piedmont advantage, falling to the Lions on the day. With the defeat, Belhaven slips to 3-3 in conference play this season.
Ashanti Lipscomb had a career day for Belhaven despite the loss, finishing with a career-high 22 points on 8-12 shooting overall and 4-5 shooting from beyond the arc.
Kourtne Lee was the other Blazer in double-figures with 13 points on 5-11 shooting from the field.
Belhaven will look to bounce back on Tuesday as they return home to take on Huntingdon in conference action. Tip off against the Hawks is set for 5:00 PM.
