MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Belhaven Volleyball team ended up on the wrong end of a 3-0 decision against Huntingdon on Wednesday night in Montgomery.
The opening set was highly competitive between the two CCS foes as Belhaven used a 5-0 run to take a 6-4 lead in the early going. A kill by
Emma Gardner tied things up at eight, but the host Hawks were able to take control of the first with six consecutive points midway through the set.
Despite drawing within four at 23-19, the Blazers dropped the final two points to give Huntingdon a 1-0 advantage in the match.
In the second set, the Hawks got out to a quick 7-2 start that turned into a 25-12 set win. The Blazers were the first to score in the third set, but Huntingdon responded with three to take an early lead. The Hawks went on to take the set and, in turn, the match, by a 25-9 margin.
Emma Gardner led Belhaven with eight kills and eight digs. Sophomore
Miriam Ateca totaled 12 assists to pace the Blazers in that category.
The Blazers have a great opportunity to get on track Saturday as Berea and Agnes Scott visit Rugg Arena for a CCS tri-match. Belhaven takes on the Mountaineers at 12:00 PM, with a matchup against the Scotties set for 4:00 PM.
