JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Women's Soccer team grabbed another win in CCS play on Saturday as they cruised past reigning conference champs Piedmont, 3-0, inside the Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
The Blazers got a quick and somewhat fortunate start to the match as
Emma Antonoplos swung a corner kick in to the near post and when the Piedmont goalie came to punch the ball away, the ball took a deflection and ended up in the back of the net. The favorable break put the Blazers in front less than three minutes into the game.
Belhaven would double their advantage in the 43rd minute as
Lauren Snell stepped up and won the ball back in the midfield. Snell played it to
Jenny Satcher who had time and space 25 yards out and fired a rocket of a shot into the corner for her 3rd goal of the season.
The Blazers grabbed the third and final goal just over 10 minutes into the second half which once again came from an
Emma Antonoplos set piece.
Kaci Craft got onto the end of Antonoplos' free kick into the box and redirected it to
Hadleigh Watson who finished off the easy tap in for her first goal of the year.
In total, Belhaven out shot Piedmont 17-4 with nine shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Julianne Wilson dealt with all four shots on target she faced.
With the win, Belhaven improves to 5-2-1 on the season and 3-0 in Collegiate Conference of the South play. The Blazers will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Birmingham-Southern College in non-conference action. Kickoff against the Panthers is set for 5:00 PM.
