BEREA, Ky. - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team secured an important road win as Collegiate Conference of the South play rolls on defeating Berea 3-2 thanks to a winning goal in the final quarter of an hour of play.
The hosts took the early lead opening the scoring inside five minutes of play setting the stage for an uphill battle in the remainder of the contest. Belhaven got some luck in the 28th minute as an attempted cross from the Blazers deflected off a Berea player and in for an own goal.
Belhaven would take the lead in the 35th minute as
Igor Rudolph grabbed his second goal of the season on an assist from
Jesus Villegas. Belhaven took a 2-1 lead into the half and Berea would get the equalizer in the 65th minute to bring the game back level.
The Blazers would secure the conference win late on though as
Ricardo Flores grabbed his first goal of the season in the 74th minute and putting Belhaven in front 3-2.
Belhaven improves to 4-1-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference play as their strong start to the season continues. The Blazers return to action on Tuesday, September 26th when they host Rhodes College in non-conference action. Kickoff at the Belhaven Bowl Stadium is set for 3:00 PM.
