JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Volleyball team dropped their match against the Westminster Blue Jays in four sets.
In the first set, the Blazers fell behind early 9-5 after an explosive start by Westminster. Belhaven continued to struggle to keep up with the Blue Jays and would go on to drop the first set 25-14.
The second set began with both teams trading points early. As the set progressed, the Blazers jumped out to a 10-7 lead. The Blue Jays would not go down easily and continued to crawl back in the match late. Both teams continued to trade punches late, however the Blazers fell short and lost the set 25-22.
Belhaven got off to a fast start in the third set with a 7-4 lead. Westminster once again did not go away easily as they stayed right behind the Blazers. Both teams continued to trade points towards the end with Belhaven controlling the lead for most of the set. Belhaven would go on to overcome the Blue Jays in the final stretch and take the set 26-24.
The fourth set started out with both teams going back and forth. As the set continued, neither team managed to pull ahead and points were continued to be traded. Westminster would then go on a run to overtake the Blazers and take the set 25-17.
On the offensive side,
Megan LaCour, Cailtin Torok, and
Rylee White led the Blazers in kills with LaCour having 12, Torok with 11, and White with nine.
Aniyah Tompkins once again led the Blazers in total assists with 28. Several Blazers found their way on the defensive side. Cailtin Torok led the Blazers in digs with 18 while
Megan LaCour chipped in with 13 and
Kayla Robinson with 10.
The Blazers will travel to Tennessee for their next match and face the Maryville Scots Saturday, September 23rd at 11:00 AM.
