JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Volleyball team won their conference opener against the LaGrange Panthers in a straight sweep.
The first set began with the Blazers jumping out ahead to a 10-7 lead. LaGrange continued to follow closely behind until the Blazers took a commanding lead and finished the set with a 25-16 victory.
In the second set, The Blazers were very dominant and took a 10-6 lead at the midway point. The Blazers offense exploded for a 10-3 run and they didn't look back taking the set 25-13.
In the third set, Belhaven hopped out to a big 16-5 lead. LaGrange managed to crawl their way back into the match and cut the lead to three. However, their comeback effort fell short as the Blazers took the third set in commanding fashion 25-18.
Cailtin Torok led the Blazers in kills by handing out 12 as well as
Rylee White and
Megan LaCour with seven.
Aniyah Tompkins led the team in total assists with 25.
Miriam Ateca and Cailtin Torok were prolific on defense with Ateca have seven digs and Torok having five.
The Blazers will look to continue to add to the win column in their next match against Westminster College Thursday September 21 at 7:00 PM.
