JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team stayed unbeaten to start the 2023 campaign as they battled Sewanee to a scoreless draw at the Belhaven Bowl Stadium on Saturday.
An even match, the first 45 minutes went by without much fanfare as neither team had many chances of significant note. Belhaven goalkeeper was credited with a couple of saves in the first half while
Julian Carreira gave the Blazers their best scoring chance with a header from a set piece that went just wide of the net.
The second half proved to be more open though as both teams continued to push for an opening goal. Carreira once again gave Belhaven a strong scoring chance when he sent a shot on target that was saved by the Sewanee goalkeeper.
Partway through the second half, the Blazers were able to fire the ball into the back of the net but the goal did not stand after a foul whistled against the Blazers right before the shot.
In the end, Belhaven outshot the visitors 10-7 overall while both teams finished with four shots on goal. The Blazers were shown four yellow cards including a second yellow to Christian Hernandez late on in the match.
Belhaven returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Arkansas to face the University of the Ozarks in their final non-conference match before CCS play begins.
