Jackson, Miss.- The Belhaven Volleyball team came up short in their opening match of the Millsaps Invitational against the Majors.
In the opening set, the Blazers fell behind early as Millsaps got off to a quick 6-1 start. Belhaven struggled to keep up with the Majors as they jumped ahead on a 10-3 run. Millsaps continued to control the tempo and the Blazers dropped the first set 25-8.
The Blazers started off strong in the second set and kept it tight trailing 8-7 midway through the set. Millsaps then broke out and took a comfortable 18-13 lead to the Blazers avail. Belhaven failed to keep up and lost the set 25-16.
The third set began with a quick 5-1 run by the Majors. Belhaven then kicked it into gear and managed to get to within three. However, Millsaps then regained control of the game and didn't look back as the Blazers fell 25-16.
The Blazers were led in kills by
Megan LaCour who had four, and
Rylee White who recorded three.
Aniyah Tompkins also pitched in and led the team in assists with seven. On the defensive side of the net,
Kayla Robinson and
Caitlin Torok led the way in digs with Robinson providing eight and Torok handing out six.
The Blazers will be back in action Saturday September 16 to face the University of Dallas at 12:00 PM in Jackson for the Millsaps Invitational.
