JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Men's Soccer team picked up their third win of the season on Thursday, shutting out visiting Concordia 1-0 at the Belhaven Bowl Stadium. The Blazers are now 3-0-1 on the 2023 campaign.
The chances leaned in favored of the Tornados in the opening 45 minutes as the visitors led 3-1 in the shots on goal department. Belhaven goalkeeper
Max Rudolph recorded three saves during the half to keep things scoreless heading into the break.
Neither team could find the breakthrough until the 61st minute when
Matthew Farias won a free kick on the edge of the box.
Christian Yaniel Hernandez beat the Concordia keeper on the ensuing free kick in the top right corner to put the Blazers in front.
Both squads had a couple of more goal-scoring opportunities, but nothing found the back of the net as Belhaven earned the 1-0 victory. The Blazers' backline has been phenomenal in the early portion of the season, allowing just one goal through four matches.
It is a quick turnaround for the Blazers as they return to the pitch on Saturday, September 16th to host Sewanee. Kickoff is set for 11:00 AM.
