JACKSON, Miss. – Allie Gordon of the Belhaven Softball team and Andrew Scherer of the Belhaven Golf team have been named the C Spire Athletes of the Week following their performances over the past week.
Gordon continues to put up a strong 2023 campaign for the Blazers, going 9-16 (.563) in four CCS games over the weekend. The junior third baseman tallied four doubles, a triple, a home run, a stolen base, and five RBIs. Gordon, the Blazers' leading hitter, is slashing .494 (43-87) with a team-leading 27 RBIs, 11 doubles, three triples, and four homers on the year. She ranks among the league leaders in OPS (1.338), total bases (72), and slugging percentage (.828).
Scherer led Belhaven to their best finish this season at the Rhodes Spring Invitational earlier this week. The Wauseon, Ohio native placed 16th among individuals after putting up strong rounds throughout the tournament. On the opening day, Scherer carded a round-one 76 (+4) before turning in a 73 (+1) in the second round. He rounded out his play with a 78 (+6) in the final round to secure a Top-20 finish and sit atop the Blazers' leaderboard.
Gordon and the Softball team will head to 25th-ranked Piedmont for a CCS doubleheader showdown on Thursday, April 6th. Start time is set for 11:00 AM CT.
Scherer will wrap up his freshman season at the Collegiate Conference of the South Championships on April 17th-19th. The three-day event is slated to be held in Dalton, Georgia.
