ATLANTA, Ga. - On the heels of becoming the program leader in career strikeouts, Belhaven Baseball's
Brett Sanchez picked up his third CCS Pitcher of the Week honor of the season on Monday. The junior right-hander has now won that accolade for a third consecutive time.
Starting in the final game of the series and needing just five strikeouts to become Belhaven's all-time leader, Sanchez put up yet another dominant start on the mound in a 10-0 win over Covenant. The Slidell, La. native went the full 7.0 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out 11 while walking none. Sanchez's historic moment came in the top of the 3rd inning when he recorded strikeout No. 274 on a swinging strikeout for the second out of the inning. Sanchez has now thrown a complete game in his last four starts.
On the season, Sanchez is 4-1 with a 1.68 ERA in 53.2 innings pitched. He has struck out 75 to just 13 walks while allowing 10 earned runs.
Sanchez and the Blazers hit the road this weekend for a three-game series at No. 9 LaGrange. First pitch Thursday is set for 6:00 PM.
