JACKSON, Miss. – Ashaunti Barnes of the Belhaven Women's Track and Field team and Hunter Estes of the Belhaven Baseball team have been named the C Spire Athletes of the Week following their performances over the past week.
Barnes led the Blazers to a 7th-place team finish in Saturday's Rhodes 7-Way Meet in Memphis. She placed third in the 400m dash with a time of 58.46 seconds. Barnes also picked up a third-place finish in the 200m, clocking in at 26.07 seconds. Barnes was also a part of the Blazers' 4x100 relay team that finished third with a time of 49.88 seconds.
Estes had a big week at the dish for Belhaven, going 6-14 (.429) over a four-game span. The Blazers' first baseman recorded three multi-hit games while tallying a double and 5 RBIs on the week. The Purvis, Mississippi native celebrated his Senior Day with a walk-off single in Friday's 4-3 thrilling win over Huntingdon. Estes, Belhaven's leading hitter, is hitting .363 with five doubles, 23 RBIs, and 20 runs scored on the season.
Barnes hits the track next on April 27th in the CCS Championships Meet hosted at Belhaven.
Estes and his teammates wrap up the 2023 regular season this weekend with a road series at Berea.
