Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Belhaven Tennis teams continued their late season conference push on Tuesday as they traveled to Montgomery, Alabama to face off against the Huntingdon Hawks. It was a midweek split for the Blazers as the Men took down the Hawks 7-2 behind stellar individual performances and the Women fell in a tight battle 4-3.
WOMEN
The Women fell 4-3 at the Hawks on Tuesday but picked up a win in doubles play as
Judith Mills and
Evey Moore grabbed an 8-4 victory in the top doubles matchup. Mills also grabbed the top singles' pairing with 6-3 and 6-2 set wins. The Blazers also picked up a singles win due to Belhaven not having opposition to face.
MEN
In the Men's side of action the Blazers picked up a pair of doubles wins as
Gaspar Meda and
Bryce Livingston combining to take the top matchup 8-4 while
Justin Humphrey and
Abraham Gonzalez took the second matchup 8-3.
In singles' play Meda took down Huntingdon's #1 6-1, 6-1 while Gonzalez grabbed an individual win 6-1, 6-0.
Mark Matviiev picked up a singles win 6-2, 6-3 and
Jason Ball won his matchup 6-2, 6-1. Rounding out the day for the Blazers was
Justin Humphrey who took his singles' match 6-4, 7-6.
With the victory the Belhaven Men improve to 5-5 on the season and 3-1 in conference action while the Women fell to 4-6 on the year and 2-3 in conference play.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday, April 22nd when they host a pair of conference matches at home for Senior Day. The Blazers host Piedmont at 11:00 AM before taking on Berea at 2:30 PM the same day.
