JACKSON, Miss. – Sydney Runnels of the Belhaven Softball team and Dawson Albin of the Belhaven Baseball team have been named the C Spire Athletes of the Week following their performances over the past week.
Runnels went 4-7 (.571) to lead Belhaven to a 4-0 week, including big wins over Top-25 opponent Piedmont and Millsaps. The junior second baseman recorded three hits and an RBI in Thursday's doubleheader sweep over the Lions. She also came around to score the game-winning run on a double from May Hebert to secure the sweep. Runnels is hitting .347 with three doubles, a triple, a home run, and 13 RBIs in the 2023 campaign.
Albin had another big week at the plate for the Blazers, going 8-20 (.400) with three multi-hit games over the week. The Blazers' shortstop tallied two doubles and three RBIs while also running his hit streak to 19 games heading into this weekend. On the season, Albin is hitting .333 with 10 doubles, a triple, a four-bagger, and 22 RBIs.
Runnels and the Softball team return to play Saturday, April 15th for Senior Day against Maryville College. Start time for the doubleheader is slated for 12:00 PM.
Albin and the Blazers host Huntingdon this weekend for a three-game series starting Friday, April 14th. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM.
