CLERMONT, Fla. - The Belhaven Softball team split their two games on the second day of The Spring Games hosted in Florida this weekend. The Blazers fell to SUNY Geneseo in a tight affair before taking down Western New England University in the second game of the day.
GAME ONE
In the first game of the day the Blazers came up just short against SUNY Geneseo after the opposition scratched across a pair of late runs to seal it. Both clubs struck for two runs in the first inning with SUNY Geneseo starting the game off with two runs in the top of the 1st before
Kennedy Carruth tied the game on a two-RBI single later in the frame.
From that point the game became a pitcher's duel as
Gracey Baucom battled well for the Blazers and kept SUNY Geneseo off the board for four straight innings. However Geneseo was able to grab a run in the top of the 6th and followed it up with a run in the top of the 7th which proved to be the difference against the Blazers.
BELHAVEN PITCHERS

GAME TWO
In the second game of the afternoon the Blazers outlasted Western New England University due in large part to a strong pitching performance from
Kennedy Carruth and timely hits for Belhaven.Â
The two teams went scoreless through the first four frames as both starting pitchers limited opportunities to open the scoring. In the top of the 5th, Belhaven found the breakthrough as
Allie Gordon delivered an important RBI double that scored a pair of runs.Â
Gordon would come up big again in the top of the 7th as she once again delivered a two-RBI hit, this time a single that scored a pair and doubled the Blazers' lead. Western New England would pull back a run later in the same frame but Belhaven held on for the important win that puts them at 2-2 through the first two days of the tournament.Â
