JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Women's Basketball team won their fifth consecutive contest on Saturday, dominating Covenant from start to finish to the tune of an 83-59 win. The Blazers improved to 14-6 (8-4 CCS) with the victory.
Belhaven got off to a picture-perfect start, scoring the game's first 11 points to take command early. Covenant got it within four at 14-10, but the Blazers were able to extend the lead back to 11 after
Allaijah Gamble knocked down a three as the first-quarter buzzer sounded.
Belhaven continued to control the game, and the Blazers took a 50-25 lead into the halftime break due in large part to 19 points from
Shantashia John. The Scots cut the Blazers' lead to 20 early in the third, but Belhaven responded by pushing the lead to as many as 29 before heading to the fourth quarter.
The Blazers and Scots traded buckets over the final 10 minutes as Belhaven cruised to the 83-59 win, completing the season sweep over Covenant after winning by 29 on the road back in January.
John led the Blazers with 26 points on 9-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-5 from three-point range.
Ebony Gayden finished with 18 points and five rebounds, while
