JACKSON, Miss. – Despite 24 points from
Jordan Marshall, the Blazers dropped a 76-69 decision to Covenant College on Saturday night at Rugg Arena.
The visitors jumped out to an early 10-5 lead, but Belhaven tied things up at 10-apiece just past the under-12 media timeout. Covenant was able to take control momentarily at 21-14, but the Blazers scored 11 unanswered to take a four-point lead with just under four to play in the first half.
The Green and Gold extended that advantage to as many as seven before taking a 33-27 lead into the locker room. The Scots battled back early in the second, cutting the lead to just two at the 15:08 mark.
Covenant seized the momentum midway through the half as they utilized a 21-4 run to take a 60-47 lead. The Blazers fought back and were able to draw within five late, but they could not quite close the gap as Covenant picked up the 76-69 victory.
Marshall poured in a game-high 24 points while his backcourt mate
Judah Jordan finished with 20 and eight rebounds.
Luke Couch added 14 points, hitting 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
Belhaven will look to get back into the win column on Friday, February 10th when they travel to Huntingdon. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 PM.
