Blazers Lead Start to Finish in CCS Win Over Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team grabbed an important road win in conference play on Friday as they led wire-to-wire in a 94-77 victory over Huntingdon College.

The Blazers came out humming in the first half dominating both ends of the floor and within five minutes found themselves on top 13-5 over the Hawks. In less than three minutes the Blazers had run that 13-5 lead out to 23-8 with Belhaven getting a strong start from guard Luke Couch.

After running their lead out to double-digits, the Blazers were able to keep the Hawks at bay and with 6:47 to go in the first half Belhaven led 39-24. In keeping with the flow of the game, Belhaven would lead by at least nine points the remainder of the half and took a 50-40 lead into the break.

Coming out for the second half, the hosts looked for second life putting together a strong first six minutes that had them within two of the Blazers lead with just under 14 minutes to go. That run would come up just short though of leveling the contest and over the next few minutes Belhaven would be able to push the advantage back out to double digits.

As the game entered the final stages, Belhaven continued to pull away from the Hawks as an all-around scoring performance had the Blazers up by 21 with 3:13 left in the game. The hefty lead allowed the Blazers a comfortable finish to the game as they grabbed their 11th win on the year and 6th win in CCS play.

Jordan Marshall and Luke Couch combined for 50 total points on the day with both players contributing a game-high 25 points in the win. Marshall also grabbed five rebounds to go with four steals while Couch provided three assists and shot 50% from three. Freshman Neal Terry was a force in the post with seven points, 10 rebounds and two blocks off the bench.

The Blazers will look to use this win and build momentum on Saturday as they make the trip to Georgia for a CCS matchup against LaGrange. Tip off against the Panthers is set for 3 PM CT.
