HOUSTON, Texas – Scoreless heading into the bottom of the 9th, a three-run walk-off home run lifted the University of St. Thomas to a 3-0 win over Belhaven on Friday night at Reckling Park.
It was an old-fashioned pitcher's duel between Belhaven and UST with hits coming at a premium all night long. Belhaven ace
Brett Sanchez recorded a career-high 12 punchouts in 8.2 innings, allowing just two earned runs on five hits.
The Blazers' best scoring chance of the night happened in the 7th with runners on the corners and two outs, but a groundout ended the threat. After allowing the first two batters of the inning to reach base, Sanchez worked out of a jam in the 8th by inducing a double play to keep things scoreless heading the final inning.
After a pair of walks closed Sanchez's night, UST won it in dramatic fashion with a three-run homer over the left field wall to take the middle game of the series.
