JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven University Women's Basketball team extended their winning streak to four games after an impressive 82-29 win over Mississippi University for Women Owls inside Rugg Arena on Wednesday. With the win, the Blazers improve to 13-6 overall and 7-4 in conference play.
The Blazers controlled the game from the opening tip, going on a 15-2 run in the opening five minutes of play. Belhaven continued to shoot well from the floor to take a 28-6 advantage going into the second quarter.
The Green and Gold extended their lead to 35 points five and a half minutes into the second frame. BU dominated the first half of the contest to take a 54-18 lead going into the break.
The visitors struggled from the field in the third quarter as the Blazers outscored the Owls 19-4 going into the final 10 minutes of action. Belhaven went on to secure the 82-29 over MUW to finish out non-conference play.
As a team, the Blazers shot 43.2% from the field with 14 different Blazers scoring in the game.
Xhiir Burgess led the charge for the Blazers with 16 points and went 8-for-8 from the field.
Allaijah Gamble had a season-high four made three pointers and totaled 12 points in 14 minutes for the Blazers.
The Blazers will return to action on Saturday, February 4 against the Covenant College Scots in Collegiate Conference of the South play inside Rugg Arena. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
