Box Score JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Volleyball team fell to Millsaps in their regular season finale Thursday night. The Blazers honored seniors
Caitlin Torok and
Madison Majors pregame for their contributions to the Belhaven Volleyball program.
In the opening set, the Blazers kept it close as the Majors pushed out ahead to a 13-9 lead. Belhaven began to fall behind as Millsaps gained a 21-13 lead towards the end. The Blazers struggled to recover and would drop the set 25-16.
At the start of the second set, the Blazers fell behind early after a quick 7-2 run by the Majors. As the set moved forward, Belhaven struggled to keep up with Millsaps as the Majors went on a massive 12-2 run to close out the set 25-8. Set three began with both teams exchanging points with Millsaps having a 7-4 advantage. The Majors started to pull away by taking a 15-9 lead at the midway mark. Belhaven then went on an impressive comeback effort and took a 22-21 lead as the set drew near the end. The Blazers unfortunately fell short as Millsaps made a last push to take the set 25-22.
Several Blazers impacted the game offensively. Senior
Caitlin Torok led Belhaven in kills with four as
Aniyah Tompkins,
Rylee White, and
Heidi Sheikho added to the totals with three. Belhaven was led in assists by
Aniyah Tompkins who contributed 11 on the day. Defensively,
Kayla Robinson led Belhaven with nine digs as
Megan LaCour,
Aniyah Tompkins, and
Miriam Ateca followed right behind with six.
Belhaven will begin play in the CCS Tournament as they travel to Maryville on Tuesday, November 7 to face the Scots in the quarterfinals. Match time will be announced at a later date.
