Blazers Fall to BSC in Heartbreaker

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Belhaven Men's Basketball Team suffered defeat at the hands of Birmingham-Southern on the final day of the BSC Black Tie Classic in a heartbreaking 92-87 overtime loss.

The first half began with the Panthers jumping out to a quick 10-2 lead. Belhaven crawled their way back into it and took a 30-22 lead with 5:30 to go. The Blazers maintained control and went into halftime with a 34-28 lead. The second half began with both teams going back and forth in the early minutes. The Blazers gained momentum with 8:00 to go by going on a 10-2 run to take a 61-53 lead. The Panthers would not go down without a fight as they tied the game at 68 with less than three minutes to go. Both teams went down to the wire with Belhaven taking a 76-73 lead with six seconds remaining. Much to the avail of Belhaven, the Panthers converted on a buzzer beating three to send the game to overtime.

In overtime, neither team managed to pull ahead with both sides still fighting to take the lead. With 15 seconds left, the Panthers converted on two free throws to take a 90-87 lead. On the ensuing possession, the Blazers unfortunately failed to convert on a three point opportunity and would come up short to Birmingham-Southern 92-87.

Belhaven shot 40.3% from the field and struggled to connect from three shooting just 20%. Five Blazers scored in double figures with Judah Jordan leading the way with 18 points, five rebounds, and ten assists on the night. Jordan Marshall poured in 16 points while Damien Wheaton and Jermario Hersey both scored 14. Jacob Reese continues to be a force to be reckoned with as he recorded his fourth straight double double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

The Blazers will look to bounce back as they return to play in Jackson on Monday, November 27 to face Centenary. Tip off will begin at 6:00 PM.
