JACKSON, Miss.- The Belhaven Men's Basketball Team went down to the wire with the Centenary Gents for an impressive 66-63 victory at home.Â
The Blazers and the Gents began the game by trading baskets back and forth. After shooting struggles for both teams, the Blazers got out to an 18-12 lead with 6:51 left in the half. The Gents responded by going on a 14-4 run to close the half and take a 26-22 lead at halftime. The Blazers struggled to find their mark from the field shooting just 29.6% overall.Â
The second half was an all-out duel for both teams. After a slow first couple of minutes, Centenary pushed ahead to a 44-39 lead with less than 12 minutes to go. Belhaven managed to stay right on the heels of the Gents and inch closer to the lead. The momentum favored the Blazers towards the end as the Blazers took a 62-61 lead with 44 seconds left to go. Belhaven would go on to seal the game 66-63 after several clutch free throws and a strong defensive stance.Â
The Blazers picked up their shooting in the second half to finish the day shooting 42.9% from the field as well as 33.3% from three.
Judah Jordan was the difference maker for the Blazers as he led the team with 21 points and six assists on 53.8% from the field while also going 5-10 from three.
Jermario Hersey was a spark plug off the bench for the Blazers by pouring in 16 points on a very efficient 85.7% from the field.
Jacob Reese continues to be a force on the boards, finishing with six points and 11 rebounds.Â
The Blazers will return to play in December as they face the University of New Orleans in an exhibition match on Tuesday the fifth at 6:30. Belhaven will resume regular season play as they travel to Colorado Springs to face Colorado College on Saturday, December 9. Tip-off will begin at 5:00 PM. Â
