BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Belhaven Men's Basketball Team outlasted the Sewanee Tigers 89-77 on day one of the BSC Black Tie Classic.
The first half was not the start Belhaven hoped for, falling behind 12-3 in the first four minutes of action. The Blazers responded with a commanding 16-2 run to take a 19-14 lead with ten minutes left in the half. The Tigers and the Blazers went back and forth for the rest of the half with Sewanee holding a 33-31 lead at the half.
The second half began with the Tigers quickly jumping out to an eight point lead in the first three minutes of action. The Blazers continued to be resilient and managed to regain control of the lead with less than ten minutes to go.
The Blazers and the Tigers were trading bucket for bucket with the score knotted up at 68 with five minutes remaining. The Blazers then kicked the door down with an explosive 13-0 run to give them an 81-68 lead. Belhaven controlled the pace the rest of the way and took down Sewanee 89-77 to secure their fourth straight win to begin the season.
Jordan Marshall led the charge for the Blazers by finishing with 23 points on 9-16 shooting while also grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out six assists.
Luke Couch also played well pouring in 16 points on 50% shooting, while also shooting 9-10 from the charity stripe as well as getting three steals.
Judah Jordan also contributed to the cause with 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Jacob Reese continues to be a spark plug for the Blazers as he finished with 10 points and a career high 17 rebounds for his third straight double double.
The Blazers will look to stay hot as they face Birmingham-Southern in day two of the BSC Black Tie Classic Saturday, November 18. Tip off starts at 5:00 PM.
