JACKSON, Miss.- The Belhaven Women's Basketball team dropped their away contest to Millsaps in the Riverside Rivalry 62-53.
The first quarter was a slow start for both squads as shooting struggles were evident. After much back and forth, the Blazers led after one with a 7-6 lead. The second quarter was once again slow with both teams still struggling to convert. Towards the end of the quarter, the Majors pulled ahead on a 9-2 run and took a 25-18 lead at the half.
The second half opened with the Blazers falling behind to Millsaps 33-27 after a fast start from the Majors. Belhaven fought back and stayed right on the heels of Milsaps only trailing 42-35. Belhaven continued to push the envelope on the Majors as they cut the lead to four early in the fourth. Towards the latter part of the game, the Majors jumped ahead to a 58-50 lead to the Blazers avail. The Blazers failed to recover and would go on to drop the game 62-53.
As a whole Belhaven struggled from the field shooting 32.8% from the field. The Blazers were led by
Shantashia John who finished with 12 points on 4-12 shooting.
Hayle Poindexter was another bright spot for the Blazers as she finished with nine points and six rebounds.
The Blazers will return to play on Saturday, November 18 as they face the University of Dallas in the Millsaps Classic. Tip off begins at 12:00 PM.
