MACON, Ga.- The Belhaven Volleyball team split their CCS Tri-Match against Wesleyan and Covenant.
The first set was a back and forth affair between both squads. At the midway point, the Blazers began to break free, jumping out to a 22-17 lead. Unfortunately, Wesleyan went on a major run and took the set 26-24. In the second set, Belhaven controlled the pace early, jumping out to a 15-7 lead. The Blazers continued to show dominance and took the set 25-20.
Both teams came out firing in the third set, with the score being tied at ten at the halfway point. Belhaven managed to slip away and gain a 20-17 lead. The Blazers continued to play well and won the set 25-18. The fourth set once again started out close. The Blazers managed to take a 15-10 lead in the midway point and did not look back as they would go on to win the set 25-16.
Several Blazers were impactful on offense.
Megan LaCour led the Blazers in kills with 12, while
Emma Gardner was right behind her with ten.
Kylarr Martin was also big for Belhaven on kills with eight.
Aniyah Tompkins once again led the team in assists with 36. On the defensive side of things,
Olivia Johnson led the way in digs with 17.
Kayla Robinson continues to make waves defensively by providing 16 digs as well.
In the first set against Covenant, the Blazers took an early 7-5 lead. However, the Scots quickly went on a massive 15-4 run. The Blazers continued to struggle and dropped the first set 25-14.
In the second set, Belhaven stayed right on the heels of the Scots early as the set was tied at eight. Belhaven began to struggle as the Scots went on another major run. The Blazers fought back, but dropped the set 25-16.
The Blazers fell behind early in the third set 10-6. The Blazers continued to show fight but could not keep up with the offense of Covenant as they fell short 25-14.
Emma Gardner led the Blazers in kills with seven, as
Kylarr Martin contributed five to the effort.
Aniyah Tompkins led the team in assists once again with 18. On the defensive side of th net,
Kayla Robinson led the Blazers in digs with seven as
Emma Gardner and Cailtin Torok had four.
The Blazers will be back in action Thursday October 12 in LaGrange, Georgia to face LaGrange in a CCS matchup. Match time is set at 6:00 PM.
