Blazers Cruise Past Wesleyan 7-0 in Conference Finale

JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Women's Soccer team ended their 2023 regular season conference slate in style on Saturday as they cruised past Wesleyan College 7-0.

The Blazers dominated the match from the opening whistle on Saturday as they featured in the nightcap of a Belhaven Homecoming weekend. The Blazers got the opening goal just 10 minutes into the match as Ally Davis flicked a headed pass into the top corner from point blank range.

Despite the quick opener though, Belhaven's attempts would be repelled for the remainder of the first half and the Blazers settled for a 1-0 lead at the halftime interval. The dominance was still evident though as Belhaven tallied 28 shot attempts in the opening 45 minutes.

The pressure would eventually be overwhelming from the Blazers though and less than two minutes into the second half, Kaci Craft would get her first of the game and the Blazers' second. Emma Antonoplos would then make it a 3-0 Belhaven lead in the 54th minute which would kick off the Belhaven goal-scoring spree.

Belhaven would score their next three goals in less than five minutes with Craft tallying her second goal of the match in the 62nd minute and Jensen Ward making it 5-0 less than a minute later. Antonoplos would then get her second of the match in the 65th minute and send Belhaven quickly out to a 6-0 lead.

The seventh and final goal of the match for Belhaven would come from Hadleigh Watson in the 81st minute as Belhaven secured the dominant win. In total, Belhaven generated 48 shot attempts and steered 26 of those on target.

With the win, Belhaven moves to 12-3-1 on the season with one match to play. The 12 wins are the most wins for the program since 2001. They also finished second in the CCS standings with a conference regular season record of 7-1 and earning the #2 seed in the CCS tournament.

Belhaven will host #7 Berea in the first round of the Collegiate Conference of the South tournament on Saturday, October 28th with the start time set to be announced soon.
