Belhaven Splits CCS Tri-Match at Berea

BEREA, Ky.- The Belhaven Volleyball team split their CCS Tri-Match against Berea and Agnes Scott on Saturday.

Set one began with Belhaven and Berea trading points early, with Berea taking an 8-6 lead. The Blazers continued to hang strong until Berea went on an 11-1 run to close the set 25-13. The second set was a close one between both squads. At the halfway mark, both teams were tied at 15 as one team looked to make a final push for the victory. Despite the Blazers getting to within one point of Berea, they would drop the set 25-19 as the Mountaineers went on a 6-1 run.

Much like the previous sets, both teams would go back and forth at the beginning of the third set. At the middle point, Belhaven began to struggle as the Mountaineers jumped out to a lead after a 9-2 run. Belhaven would make one final push but would fall short 25-17.

Cailtin Torok led the Blazers offensively with seven kills as well as Megan LaCour who contributed five. Aniyah Tompkins would lead the Blazers in assists with 15. Kayla Robinson gave a great effort on defense by providing Belhaven with a team-leading 17 digs.

In set one against Agnes Scott, Belhaven got the advantage early with a 12-9 lead. As the Blazers pushed their lead further, the Scotties went on a 10-0 run to take the lead back. Much to the avail of Belhaven, Agnes Scott went on to take the set 26-24. In the second set, Belhaven came to life with a major offensive attack. For the rest of the set, Belhaven dominated and controlled the pace as they grabbed the set 25-14.

The third set was a head to head affair. As the set neared the end, neither team had made a push to jump out ahead. However, The Blazers put together a 10-3 run to take down the Scotties 25-18. In the fourth set, the Blazers started out hot once again with a commanding 9-2 lead to begin. The Blazers continued to run away with the lead and would go on to take the fourth set 25-14.

A trio of Blazers led in kills with Rylee White having ten as well as Kylarr Martin and Megan LaCour with nine. Aniyah Tompkins was once again electric in the assists department with 35. Several Blazers provided a huge spark on defense. Emma Gardner had a career day as she provided a season high 24 digs on the day. Kayla Robinson was also efficient by providing 16 and Aniyah Tompkins contributed to the cause with ten of her own.

The Blazers will look to end their conference play on a high note as they host Wesleyan and Covenant in a CCS Tri-Match on Saturday, October 28. First serve for game one will be at 11:00 AM while game two will begin at 3:00 PM.
