DEMOREST, Ga. - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team suffered a tough defeat to Piedmont on Saturday as they fell to the Lions 3-2 on the final day of the regular season.
The Blazers started out the match in control as they generated the majoirty of the early chances in the contest. Belhaven jumped in front in just the 25th minute as freshman
Courtland Williams finished off a chance provided by
Wesley Bloodworth.Â
Not long after Williams' tally, Belhaven was able to double the lead after a Blazers' cross was redirected in by a Piedmont defender in the 38th minute. Belhaven took a 2-0 lead into the half and had outshot the hosts 8-3 overall through 45 minutes.
The second half followed a different script however and just past the hour mark, the Lions would mount their comback. Piedmont pulled the game back to 2-1 in the 63rd minute and then tied the game shortly thereafter in the 66th minute. Belhaven would then concede a heartbreaker late as Piedmont scored the winner in the 88th minute to take the conference win.Â
With the loss, Belhaven finishes the regular season at 7-3-5 and 3-1-2 in conference. The Blazers end the regular season in second place and earn the #2 seed in the CCS tournament. Belhaven will host #7 Huntingdon in the first round of the conference tournament on Wednesday, October 25th. The time of the match will be announced soon.
