DEMOREST, Ga.- The Belhaven Volleyball team came up short in their CCS Tri-Match against Piedmont and Maryville.
In the first set against Piedmont, the Blazers kept it close and were only behind 8-6. Despite this, Belhaven struggled to match the intensity of the 17-3 run posted by Piedmont and dropped the set 25-9. In set two, Belhaven fell behind early 11-5. The Blazers continued to show resiliency but it was not enough as they fell short 25-11.
At the beginning of the third set, Belhaven went back and forth with Piedmont, only trailing 6-4. Belhaven began to struggle at the halfway mark as Piedmont went on a 7-2 run. The Blazers fought hard and cut the lead down to seven but would go on to lose the set 25-15.
The Blazers were led in kills by
Kylarr Martin, who provided five and
Caitlin Torok who had four.
Aniyah Tompkins led the way in assists with 15. On the defensive end,
Kayla Robinson led the Blazers in digs with eight as well as Cailtin Torok and
Emma Gardner who each had six.
In the first set against Maryville, both teams came out swinging as the score was tied at 10. As the rest of the set continued, Maryville jumped out to a lead to the Blazers dismay and had control the rest of the way as Belhaven dropped the set 25-16. At the beginning of the second set, Belhaven struggled early as they fell behind 6-0. Belhaven managed to put together an impressive comeback effort as both teams were trading punches. Despite the comeback, Belhaven fell short 26-24.
In the third set, the Blazers came out on fire with a 7-1 run to start. Maryville continued to scrap and fight but Belhaven maintained steady control and took the set 25-18. The fourth set was an absolute nail-biter in which no team gained a real advantage. Belhaven stayed with the Scots and fought hard as the set neared the end. Despite the best efforts of Belhaven, they fell just short and lost the set 27-25.
Megan LaCour led Belhaven in kills with ten on the day as Cailtin Torok and
Rylee White provided seven.
Aniyah Tompkins continues to dominate in the assist category for Belhaven as she once again led with 24. Several Blazers were impactful on defense.
Kayla Robinson led the way in digs with 14 as
Aniyah Tompkins contributed with 13 and
Megan LaCour with 11.
The Blazers will look to bounce back as they face Huntingdon in Jackson October 18. First serve will begin at 6:00 PM.
