LAGRANGE, Ga. - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team took down LaGrange 4-0 on Friday in a matchup of the top of the Collegiate Conference of the South regular season standings. A victory, aided by a hat trick from veteran defender
Lex Rogers, gave the Blazers all three points and put them atop the conference as we enter the final week of the regular season.
After a half hour of play, Rogers would get his first goal of the match with an assist from
Jesus Villegas that fired the Blazers in front. Rogers would then follow his 32nd minute goal with a second less than ten minutes later as the Mississippi native notched a first half brace with
Koby Rhone picking up an assist.Â
Rogers' double had Belhaven with a comfortable lead at the first half interval with goalkeeper
Max Rudolph only being called into action once in the first 45 minutes. On the other side of half time, Belhaven would maintain their commanding lead before
Carl Koppeis struck for his first career goal in the 72nd minute, assisted by
Guiwyn Alsina.
As the match ended the final quarter hour of play, LaGrange was whistled for a foul in the box and the Blazers were awarded a penalty. Rogers stepped and converted from the spot to finish off his career day and give Belhaven one of their biggest wins to date.
Rogers hat trick takes him to four goals on the season which is now top on the Belhaven squad. The Blazers sit on 11 points with one conference match to play and the assurance that LaGrange cannot catch them as the Panthers conference schedule is finished. Piedmont (6 points) sits in third but with three matches left to play including one against the Blazers.Â
Belhaven returns to action on Wednesday when they take on Millsaps in a close away matchup. Kickoff against the Majors is set for 7:00 PM.
