MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Fresh off a thrilling double OT win over Berea on Friday the Belhaven Men's Basketball team jumped into a their second game of a short back-to-back on Saturday and suffered their first conference loss of the year as they were beaten by Maryville 96-61.
The hosts were the ones who jumped out to an early lead with a quick run in the first few minutes to open up a double-digit advantage. Belhaven would work hard though to close the gap and trimmed the Maryville lead down to just five points as the game approached the midway point of the first half.
Despite closing the gap though the hosts continued to make their shots, particularly from beyond the arc and restored their double-digit hold on the game taking a 48-31 lead into the half. Coming into the second half the Blazers once again were able to make a brief run to bring the game back within 10 points but the hosts held the Blazers at bay and pulled away in the second half. As the final minutes waned Maryville extended their lead further and handed Belhaven their first loss in conference play this season.
On the day Belhaven was led by
Luke Couch and
Judah Jordan who both finished the matchup in double figures with 12 points and 10 points respectively. Jordan also led Belhaven with six rebounds and four assists on the afternoon.Â
As a team the Blazers shot over 41% from the field but struggled from beyond the arc going just 2-16 on the day after shooting 52% from three in Friday's win over Berea.Â
The Blazers will be back at it on Saturday, January 14th when they host LaGrange in the continuation of CCS action.
