JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven University Women's Basketball team dominated the game to defeat Agnes Scott 82-44 in Collegiate Conference of the South play on Friday evening. With the win, the Blazers improved to 9-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

The Blazers jumped out to a 16-0 lead before the Scotties scored their first basket in the contest. Agnes Scott outshot Belhaven to close the first quarter, but the Blazers still held on to the 20-5 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Belhaven played their best quarter in the second outscoring their opponent 31-11. The Blazers extended their lead to 35 points to make the score 51-16 at the end of the first half.

Agnes Scott cut the lead 23 points with 3:55 left in the third quarter, but he Green and Gold maintined the 62-33 advantage over the Scotties.

The Blazers took the 42 point lead, which was the biggest in the contest late in the fourth quarter to make the score 82-40. Belhaven secured the 82-44 victory over Agnes Scott to move to 5-2 in conference play.

Xhiir Burgess led the Blazers offensively with 18 points and went 7-for-13 from the field. Shantashia John collected 14 points, four steals, and was perfect from the charity stripe in the contest. Hayle Poindexter and Kourtne Lee grabbed six rebounds apiece to lead the Green and Gold defensively.

As a team, Belhaven shot 40.3 percent from the field, 29.2 percent from behind the arc, and shot 63 percent from the charity stripe.

The Blazers will return to action on Saturday, January14 against the LaGrange College Panthers inside Rugg Arena. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
