JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Women's Basketball fell behind early and despite outscoring LaGrange 36-27 in the second half, the Blazers dropped a 79-63 decision to the Panthers. Belhaven falls to 9-5 (5-2 CCS) on the season.
Both teams went back and forth in the early going as Belhaven grabbed a 9-8 lead heading into the first media timeout. LaGrange scored the game's next 12 points to take control and a 22-14 lead after one.
The Panthers continued to extend their lead, eventually stretching it out to 25 at 52-27 going into intermission. The Blazers used a quick 8-0 run out of the locker room to get within 17, but the Panthers responded by expanding their lead back to 25 late in the third.
The Blazers cut the lead to 74-61 with just over two minutes to go, but that was as close as they could get as LaGrange left Rugg Arena with a 79-63 victory.
Belhaven was led by
Xhiir Burgess, who finished with 19 points and 19 rebounds.
Hayle Poindexter scored 12 points to go along with nine boards.
