JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven University women's soccer team defeated conference foe Berea College 3-0 on Friday evening inside the Belhaven Bowl Stadium. With the win, the Blazers move to 4-4-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Belhaven got on the scoreboard first when
Emma Antonoplos drilled a penalty kick in the 32
nd minute to give the Blazers the 1-0 advantage.
The Blazers quickly found the net again in the 34
th minute when
Hayley Ruckle hit her third goal of the season off of a cross from
Sofi Restrepo to give the Green and Gold the 2-0 lead. Belhaven's defense held strong for the remainder of the half to take the 2-0 advantage over the Mountaineers at the halftime break.
Lizbeth Eslava extended the Blazers lead to 3-0 in the 76
th minute. Berea had a few opportunities to score late in the match, but the Blazers held strong to take the 3-0 victory over the Mountaineers.
As a team, the Blazers outshot the Mountaineers 23-7 and posted 11 shots on-goal.
Lizbeth Eslava led the Blazers with seven total shots in the match.
Julianne Wilson was the goalkeeper in the first half and registered two saves.
Lauren Knorr took over in the second half and earned three saves in the contest.
The Blazers will return to action on Tuesday, October 4th against Sewanee in a neutral site match in Birmingham, Ala. Kickoff is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
