JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Women's Soccer team battled to the end but ultimately fell short to Hendrix on Wednesday night. The Warriors held on to defeat the Blazers by a final of 3-2.
Hendrix opened the scoring in the 7th minute to take a 1-0 advantage. The visitors added another goal in the 28th minute to double their lead heading into the locker room.
The Blazers responded in the 63rd minute as
Lauren Samford got the Green and Gold on the board off an assist from
Emma Antonoplos. However, Hendrix converted on a penalty kick immediately after to go up 3-1.
Belhaven did not go down quietly.
Kyla Shaw found the back of the net to get within a goal with 20 minutes to play. After a few late chances from Belhaven missed the mark, Hendrix held on for the one-goal victory.
The Blazers return to conference play Friday, September 30 when they host Berea College. Start time is set for 5 PM at the Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
