JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team picked up an important non-conference win in style on Friday with a 3-1 victory over unbeaten Ozarks.
Belhaven continued their pattern of starting the game quickly and tallied the opener in just the 7th minute after hard work by
Kagoma Egide meant the midfielder was able to get a ball into the box. The pass found Christian Hernandez whose effort was blocked but dropped to
James Dempsey who calmly slotted it home for an opener.
The visitors hit back early in the second half finding the equalizer in the 48th minute after a deflection presented an easy finish to Ozarks. The Blazers didn't wait long to retake control though with
Julian Carreira grabbing his team-leading 5th goal of the season heading home a free kick from
Jacob Requilman.
It seemed Ozarks would once again find a way back into the match when they were awarded a penalty in the 79th minute but Belhaven goalkeeper
Max Rudolph came up with a huge save to deny the Eagles' a second equalizer.
Adrian Eaglin would handle the job of sealing the Belhaven victory as he got the Blazers' third goal when he got on the end of
Justin Phipps' free kick and headed the ball home for his first of the season.Â
With the win, Belhaven improves to 3-2-3 on the season and will now turn their attention to conference play hosting Berea College tomorrow at 12 PM.
