Box Score 2 SHERMAN, Texas – The Belhaven University volleyball team dropped their opening two matches in the Austin College / University of Dallas Tournament on Friday afternoon in non-conference play.
Belhaven was swept in both matches by scores of 3-0 against Pacific University and tournament host Austin College.
In the opening match, the Blazers and Boxers exchanged points for the first part of the match as the score was knotted up at nine early on. Pacific went on an 8-2 run to bring the score to 17-11. The Blazers cut the lead to two points, but the Boxers went on to earn the 25-20 set victory.
Pacific was dominate from the start of the second set as the Boxers took the 15-6 lead. The Blazers tried to rally late, but could not overcome the deficit as the Boxers went on the seal the second set by a final line of 25-16.
Pacific got off to a hot start in the third set taking a 6-2 lead early on. The Blazers would cut the lead to two points late, but the Boxers scored five straight points to take the 25-18 set victory and the match 3-0.
Offensively,
Ellie Jones and
Jeslian Vazquez led the Green and Gold with four kills while
Emma Gardner and
Rylee White totaled three kills.
Miriam Ateca posted 15 assists and
Paige Broussard tallied 15 digs.
In the second match of the tournament, the Blazers took the first two points of the match, but the Roos took the next five points to make the score 5-2. AC dominated the rest of the set and took the first set of the match by a final score line of 25-13.
The Blazers fell behind early on in the second set, but could never overcome the deficit as the Roos seal the second set victory by a final score line of 25-15 and took the 2-0 advantage in the match.
The Blazers led in the early portion of the set, but the Roos scored seven unanswered points to take a 16-9 lead in the third set. AC went on take the 25-16 set victory and the match 3-0.
Belhaven was led by freshman
Kylarr Martin with 11 kills, while
Emma Gardner and
Jeslian Vazquez posted three kills apiece.
The Blazers will return to play on Saturday, September 3 against the University of Dallas Crusaders in Irving, Texas to close out the Austin College / University of Dallas Tournament. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
