JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Women's Soccer team fell 3-1 to #16 Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday in their final non-conference matchup before their Collegiate Conference of the South schedule begins.
The Blazers got an early chance as a ball dropped to
Emma Antonoplos on the edge of the 18-yard box inside five minutes but the Blazers' shot was saved. The Cru then held the better of the play until the half hour mark when they got the opener on a long range shot that snuck under the crossbar.
After the half time break, Belhaven got a quick equalizer when
Lauren Snell won the ball back high in the attacking third.
Emma Antonoplos then picked up the ball and sent
Anna Crane through on goal for a calm one-on-one finish with the goalkeeper.
As the second half wore on the game became more stretched with both teams earning good goal-scoring opportunities. With just 10 minutes to go, UMHB got the go-ahead goal after a free kick was cleared to the edge of the Blazers' box and then directed into the net. Just two minutes later the Cru got their third when a ball snuck past
Julianne Wilson and was tapped in at the back post.Â
Belhaven drops to 2-2-2 on the season and now turns their attention to conference play. The Blazers will face Maryville College in their first ever CCS match on Thursday, September 22nd. Kick off in Maryville, Tennessee is set for 6 PM.
