LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A trio of Belhaven Softball players were named to the NFCA All-American Teams on Tuesday with
Kennedy Carruth,
Allie Gordon and
Ellie Jones all earning All-American Second Team honors.
Kennedy Carruth, Pitcher, Second Team
Kennedy Carruth was named to the NFCA All-American Second Team as a pitcher, marking the second NFCA All-American nod of her career after being named a First Team All-American last season. Carruth was the Blazers' go-to pitcher in the circle this season making 33 appearances and racking up 186.0 innings pitched. Carruth finished the season with a 26-5 record and a 1.32 ERA while posting a WHIP of just 1.01 while helping the Blazers to their first ever NCAA Super Regional appearance.
The Louisiana native struck out 230 on the season which was a new career-high and set a new single-season record for an American Southwest Conference pitcher breaking the previous record of 224 set in 2015. Carruth limited opponents to just a .184 batting average and continued to rake in postseason recognition being named Pitcher of the Year in the ASC and an All-Conference First Team pitcher. Carruth was also named to the NFCA All-Region X First Team earlier this month.
Allie Gordon, Third Base, Second Team
Allie Gordon was named to the NFCA All-American Second Team at third base, earning her first ever NFCA All-American recognition and the second All-American honor of her Blazers' career (NCCAA First Team in 2019). Gordon started every game for the Blazers at third base this season and posted the best year of her career. The Georgia native hit .384 across 49 starts and posted a 1.065 OPS, the second highest mark on the team.Â
Gordon led the Blazers with 10 home runs and 48 RBI, both of which represent career marks in a single season. With 16 doubles and two triples Gordon finished the year with 28 extra-base hits which topped the Belhaven lineup as she continues to build an outstanding BU career. Gordon was named the American Southwest Conference Player of the Year earlier this month and was named to the All-ASC First Team for the second time in her career. She joined the aforementioned
Kennedy Carruth and Belhaven freshman
Ellie Jones on the NFCA All-Region X First Team earlier this month.
Ellie Jones, First Base, Second Team
Ellie Jones was named to the NFCA All-American Second Team at first base, earning her first NFCA All-American recognition in the first year of her Belhaven career. The Missisippi native topped the Belhaven lineup with a .399 average and an 1.120 OPS across 48 starts. Allie Gordon on the team.
Jones tallied 44 runs batted in and joint team-high 35 runs scored hitting in the heart of the Blazers' order and helping propel the team to their first ASC Championship. Jones' first year in a Belhaven uniform has been a memorable one as she as picked up numerous honors including ASC Freshman of the Year, All-ASC First Team recognition and an NFCA All-Region X First Team honor. Jones also has been named among ten finalists for 2022 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division III National Freshman of the Year award which will be announced on Thursday, March 26th.Â
