Box Score 2 LONGVIEW, Texas - The Belhaven Softball team continued American Southwest Conference play on Friday as they took on LeTourneau University in a doubleheader on the first day of their three-game series. The Blazers and YellowJackets split the Friday twinbill with Belhaven taking the opener 10-0 in 6 innings before dropping the back end 2-0 to the hosts.
GAME ONE
In the series opener Belhaven jumped out to a quick lead on the YellowJackets when
Allie Gordon, just the third batter of the game for BU, belted a two-run homer, her 9th of the season. For the first three innings that was all the offense for either side with Belhaven pitcher
Kennedy Carruth keeping the YellowJackets off the board.
The Blazers would double their lead in the top of the 4th when
Sydney Runnels grabbed her first career home run as a Blazer with another two-run homer. Holding a now 4-0 lead Carruth once again kept LeTourneau quiet in the 4th and the Blazers added another pair of runs in the 5th first on a sac fly by
Haley Hanson and the second on a fielding error by the hosts.
Belhaven iced the game in the 6th with a four-run inning once again taking advantage of an error by the YellowJackets which allowed the first run of the inning to score.
Marlee Blackwell then followed with an RBI base hit and the inning was capped by
Allie Gordon's sac fly.Â

GAME TWO
The Blazers fell in the second game of the day dropping the back end of Friday's doubleheader 2-0 to the YellowJackets. In what was largely a pitcher's duel for the majority of the night the Belhaven bats were held uncharacteristically quiet not able to find a run in the game.Â
It was a late breakthrough for the hosts that proved to be the difference with LeTourneau finally finding a way past Belhaven pitcher
Gracey Baucom in the bottom of the 5th grabbing a pair of runs to secure the win. Belhaven looked for late rallies in the 6th and 7th innings but weren't able to string together enough at the plate to find an answer.Â
After the Friday split the Blazers move to 24-5 on the season and 16-4 in conference play. Belhaven and LeTourneau will square off in the finale on Saturday with the series on the line. First pitch is set for 12 PM.
