JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball team finished off the 2022 Maloney Series with an offensive outburst that saw them beat Millsaps 29-13 to take all three games against the Majors this season.
Belhaven started the game hot with a solo homerun by
Nathan Herron in the top of the 1st but found themselves trailing after two innings by a 2-1 scoreline. The Blazers though saw their first offensive explosion in the top of the 3rd inning when they struck for eight runs to take an 8-2 lead. The scoring started on an RBI double by
Dawson Albin and continued with
Nathan Herron grabbing his second homer of the game in the same inning, a two-run shot this time.
The hosts answered with two runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning and both teams were held scoreless in the 4th inning. In the 5th each team grabbed a run with the Blazers coming from an RBI double by
Nick Lucido and after five frames the Blazers led 10-5.Â
In the final four innings is where Belhaven's run production escalated starting first with a four-run frame in the top of the 6th inning. With bases loaded
Grayson Doss doubled to left field clearing the bases. Doss then scored in the inning on another RBI hit by
Nick Lucido which put Belhaven in front 14-5. Belhaven then added another six runs in the top of the 7th in an inning that saw
Nathan Herron get his third home run of the game, this time a grand slam that upped his RBI total to seven.Â
Millsaps then grabbed four runs of their own in the bottom of the 7th meaning the two teams combined for 10 runs in the frame and with two innings to go, the Blazers led 20-9. Belhaven contineud to add though and in the 8th inning, got their second, eight-run inning of the game taking advantage of numerous bases loaded opportunities.
Hunter Estes opened the 8th inning scoring with a sac fly which was followed shortly by
Kyle McLaughlin's ground ball that ended up scoring a pair. Later in the 8th
Hunter Estes got his second at-bat and second RBI of the inning with a base hit that scored Albin.Â
Millsaps would get another run to their total in the 8th and following a single run in the top of the 9th by the Blazers, get three more as the two teams combined for 42 runs on the evening.Â
BELHAVEN HIGHLIGHTS

Nathan Herron finished the game 3-5 with three home runs, seven RBI and four runs scored. Herron's three home runs ties an ASC record for homers in a single game.Â

- Tuesday was the second 20+ run game of the season for the Blazers with the first coming on March 18th in a 23-11 win over Sul Ross
- 16 different position players saw the field on Tuesday

- Belhaven's starting lineup finished the game 16-36 with 20 RBI, 12 walks, and 7 extra-base hitsÂ
- With the win over Millsaps the Blazers sweep the 2022 Maloney Series and have now won seven straight over the Majors dating back to the start of the 2019 season
Belhaven returns to action on Friday when they host MUW in a non-conference double header. First pitch is currently slated for 4 PM.Â
