RICHARDSON, Texas - The Belhaven Baseball team clinched their weekend series against the #23 UT Dallas Comets on Saturday, coming from behind late and winning it by a final score 9-7.

The game was a high-scoring affair and the runs started early with Belhaven scoring three runs in the top of the1st on Nick Lucido's two-run homer that scored Nathan Herron to give the Blazers the early 2-0 lead. Still in the 1st inning with runners on the corners, the Blazers called a double steal as Dawson Albin steals home to plate the third run of the inning to make the score 3-0

The Comets answered the Blazers and took the lead in the bottom half of the first scoring four runs to take the 4-3 advantage over the Blazers. Nathan Herron leveled the score up at 4 after a RBI single up the middle that scored Caleb Whittle from second base. UTD then scored a RBI single take the 5-4 lead over the Blazers. After a scoreless third inning, the Blazers tied the game up at 5 apiece in the top of the fourth when Matthew Charbonnet scored on a throwing error by the third baseman. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Comets took the 6-5 advantage after a solo homer. The Blazers kept fighting back as Matthew Charbonnet roped a RBI single to left field to level the score at 6-6. 

The Blazers nor Comets scored in the next two frames, but BU had their second three run frame in the ballgame in the top of the eighth inning to bring the score to 9-6.The Comets scored their final run in the bottom of the eighth, but the Blazers went on to take the 9-7 victory over the #23 UT Dallas Comets and win the series 2-1.

With the win, the Blazers finished the regular season with a 26-14 overall record and 19-11 in ASC play. The Blazers will return to action as the #3 seed in the American Southwest Conference Tournament in Richardson, Texas on May 5-7. Belhaven will be in the Red Bracket, taking on the Hardin Simmons University Cowboys on May 5 at 11:00 a.m.
