JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Softball team continued to be dominant in American Southwest Conference play on Friday as they took on the UT Dallas Comets  The Blazers took game one by a final score of 4-3 and won the second game 2-0. The Blazers improve to 33-5 overall and 25-4 in American Southwest Conference play.

GAME ONE

In the series opener, the Blazers and Comets got off to a slow start as neither team could plate a run in the first two innings. The Comets earned the first run of the contest off of a RBI single, but the Blazers responded in the bottom half of the third inning when Ellie Jones belted a three-run homer over the center field wall to give the Blazers the 3-1 advantage over the Comets.

After a scoreless fourth inning, the vistors tied up the ballgame at 3-3 with a 2-RBI double in the top of the fifth inning. Belhaven and UT Dallas remained tied at 3 after six complete innings. After back-to-back singles by Marlee Blackwell and Haley Hanson, Allie Gordon stepped up to the plate and deleivered the walk-off hit to win the game by a final score of 4-3. With the win, the Blazers clinched the #1 Seed in the American Southwest Conference Tournament, which will be hosted at Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss.

GAME TWO

The Blazers scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the second inning off of a 2-RBI single from Marlee Blackwell that scored Macy Ziskin and Sydney Runnels to give the Green and Gold the 2-0 advantage after two complete innings. It was a pitcher's duel for the remainder of the contest as the Blazers defeated the Comets 2-0 and swept the double header 2-0. As a team, the Blazers had two runs on five hots and two errors in the contest. 

Baucoum was dominant in the circle for belhaven as she gave up only two hits in the contest and did not give up a single run. With the win, the Blazers are the 2022 American Southwest Conference Regular Season Champions and will host the American Southwest Conference Tournament as the #1 Seed at Delta State University.

The Blazers and Comets will return for the series finale on Saturday, April 30 at Jim McLeod Field and it will also be Senior Day. The Blazers will be honoring nine seniors during the senior day festivities and it is scheduled to begin at 1:10 p.m.
