JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Softball team defeated the UT Dallas Comets 5-4 in walk off fashion on Senior Day after taking Friday's doubleheader 4-3 and 2-0 over the Comets

The Blazers were ready for the series finale as they jumped on the hosts early after Marlee Blackwell hit a leadoff homerun in the top of the 1st inning. With the 1-0 lead, Kennedy Carruth belted a solo shot to left field to give the Green and Gold the 2-0 advantage over the Comets in the bottom of the second inning.

Neither team could plate a run in the third inning, but the Blazers extended their lead to 3-0 after Kennedy Carruth hit a RBI single that scored Allie Gordon. The Comets scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 3-2 going into the bottom of the fifth. 

Senior Abby Trahan blasted a solo shot over the center field wall to extend the Blazers lead to 4-2. After a scoreless sixth inning, the Comets leveled the game to 4-4 in the top of the ninth, but the Blazers came in clutch in the bottom of the seventh when Haley Hanson hit a single to right field to score Sydney Runnels to walk it off for the Blazers. Belhaven went on to take the series 3-0 and the game 5-4.

With the win Belhaven finished the regular season with a 34-5 overall record and 26-4 in conference play. The Blazers will host the American Southwest Conference Tournament at Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss.on May 5-7 at University Field. BU will compete on Friday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m.
