CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - The Belhaven Softball team polished off a road sweep of the University of the Ozarks (AR) on Saturday with a 9-0 run rule win in five innings after taking Friday's doubleheader with 3-2 and 3-1 wins over the Eagles.
Belhaven's bats were ready for the series finale and the Blazers jumped on the hosts early a 3-run frame in the top of the 1st inning.
Kennedy Carruth drove in the first run with a double to left field that scored
Marlee Blackwell and
Ellie Jones then drove in Carruth with an RBI single. Later in the inning
Anna McNeer worked a bases loaded walk to score another for BU.Â
The Blazers added two runs in the 2nd inning with
Allie Gordon's RBI triple driving in the first before
Kennedy Carruth's sac fly scored Gordon from third base. The Blazers also grabbed a run in the 3rd on
Abby Trahan's RBI single to open up a 6-0 lead after three innings.Â
While the Belhaven bats were off to the races, Belhaven starting pitcher
Natalie Parker was keeping Ozarks off the board in the home half of innings generating little hard contact and taking advantage of stout defense behind.Â
Belhaven added a trio of runs in the 4th inning as Carruth came up with another sac fly that scored
Haley Hanson and then
May Hebert came into the game and drove in a pair of runs with an RBI double.Â
With a 9-0 lead, Belhaven relievers
Dallas Blaker and
Abby Prescott slammed the door shut on the Eagles as Belhaven continues to solidfy their position atop the ASC standings with one weekend to go in the regular season.Â

With the win Belhaven improves to 31-5 on the season and 23-4 in conference play. The Blazers remain atop the ASC standings and hold a 2.0 game lead over both East Texas Baptist and Mary Hardin-Baylor with three games to go in the season. Belhaven also holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over both the Tigers and the Cru.Â
