JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball team wrapped up their weekend series with McMurry on Saturday taking the finale and the series as a whole with an 11-4 victory over the War Hawks.
Belhaven started the contest hot at the plate grabbing three runs in the bottom of the 1st including a pair on an RBI single by
Chase Kitchens that scored
Nick Lucido and
Kyle McLaughlin. In the 3rd the Blazers added a run to their lead on an RBI single by
Dawson Albin.
With a multi-run lead to work with nearly out of the gate, Belhaven starter
Joshua Thomas kept the visitors quiet through four innings of work as the freshman made his first collegiate start. McMurry was able to break through in the 5th inning with three runs that cut the Belhaven lead down to 4-3.
The Blazers responded quickly though and in the bottom of the 6th scored twice, first on an RBI single by
Grayson Doss and then a second on
Kyle McLaughlin's sac bunt to open up a 6-3 advantage. In the 7th
Dawson Albin once again was able to drive in a run for the Blazers this time on a base hit that scored
Nick Lucido. McMurry was able to get a run back in the 8th but that would prove to be their final run of the contest as
Will Swift shut down the War Hawks at the plate.
Belhaven would go on to post their biggest inning of the game at the plate with four runs in the bottom of the 8th to wrap up the victory and the series win.
