Baseball Falls in Finale, Takes Series Against Hardin-Simmons

ABILENE, Texas - The Belhaven Baseball team fell 12-10 in their series finale at Hardin-Simmons on Friday meaning the Blazers left Abilene with two wins in an important series as the ASC regular season winds to a close.

The Blazers got a run early in the game with a run on Nick Lucido's RBI single in the top of the 1st inning which scored Nathan Herron. The hosts were quick to answer though and with two outs came up with a three-run homer in the home half of the 1st inning that catapulted them in front.

In the 2nd inning the hosts tacked on four more runs and opened up a 7-1 lead over the Blazers heading into the 3rd inning. Belhaven worked to get back into the contest and scored three runs in the top of the 3rd inning taking advantage of a defensive miscue by Hardin-Simmons. Lucido grabbed his 2nd RBI hit of the game in the frame once again scoring Nathan Herron.

The Blazers would get two more runs in the top of the 4th inning to cut the hosts' lead down to just a run with the first run coming on a base hit by Matthew Charbonnet and the second on a single that drove in a run by Kyle McLaughlin.

Hardin-Simmons followed with another big inning in the bottom of the 5th however scoring four runs and once again pushing their lead out to five runs. Trailing 11-6, Nathan Herron delivered an RBI double that scored a pair of runs in the top of the 6th and then contributed to a two-run top of the 8th inning with an RBI single. However the Blazers weren't able to close the gap any further falling to the Cowboys in the end.

With the 2-1 series split Belhaven holds their spot at 3rd in the ASC with two conference series remaining. The Blazers are 20-12 overall this season and 15-9 in the conference. They're 3.0 games back of UT-Dallas in second and sit 3.0 games in front of fourth place UMHB.

The Blazers will travel to Millington, Tennessee on Tuesday to face Hendrix in non-conference action. First pitch is set for 4 PM.
