Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Belhaven Softball team continued their impressive run at the NFCA D3 Leadoff Classic following their stellar start on Friday with two more wins on Saturday to bring them to 4-0 so far across the weekend. The Blazers took down #17 Berry and MIT as they extended their win streak to nine straight on the season.
GAME ONE
The Blazers took an early lead against the 17th-ranked Vikings to open play on Saturday morning. Belhaven opened the home half of the 1st inning with three consecutive base hits and five of the first six batters reaching base. After the 1st inning the Blazers had an early 4-0 lead and they added another four spot in the bottom of the 2nd inning opened by a base hit from
Macy Ziskin and helped by a two-RBI single by
Allie Gordon.
Belhaven added a single run in the bottom of the 3rd and led 9-0 heading to the 4th inning but the Vikings offense put together a big seven-run frame to close the Blazers' lead down to a two-run advantage. Belhaven steadied though and scored a run in the 4th along with two runs in the 5th to take their lead back out to 12-7. The Belhaven pitching staff was able to slow the Berry bats as the Blazers held on for their third straight win over a Top 25 team.
GAME TWO
The Blazers followed their 12-7 win over Berry with a matchup against MIT with a goal of already ensuring a winning trip to Georgia across the entirety of the weekend. Belhaven jumped out to an early lead over the Engineers when
Allie Gordon picked up her third home run of the season and put the Blazers up 2-0 in the 3rd inning.
The Belhaven offense kept driving forward from their and added three more runs in the 4th inning after an RBI single from Gordon and a double from
Kennedy Carruth that scored a pair of runs. In the 5th inning the Blazers added two more runs when
Haley Hanson drove in a pair of baserunners with an RBI single putting BU up 7-0 over MIT.
In the 6th inning
Marissa Rice then came through with an RBI double that scored
May Hebert and
Carley Fudge before
Hailey Warren grabbed two RBI of her own with a double that scored Rice along with
Anna McNeer. Belhaven took an 11-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th and despite a pair of runs scored by MIT, it was the Blazers who took the win with a run rule victory.
Belhaven will wrap up the final day of the NFCA Leadoff Classic on Sunday as they face #15 St. John Fisher and Illinois Wesleyan. First pitch against St. John Fisher is set for 8 AM.
